Christy got a new water toy for Jesse and the three of us were running through the water enjoying getting wet on a hot summer day.

I'm not very happy with any of the pictures I took today.

It was a really busy day and I couldn't devote as much time to taking photos as I like to do.

These first two are on the front porch. They were both taken with an iPhone 4 using the Hipstamatic app.  They were post processed with Snapseed.

The original photo for this picture was also taken taken with an iPhone 4 using the Hipstamatic app and post processed with Snapseed just like the first two.  After post processing, I used the Diptic app for this three frame look.

Today friends invited me to spend Memorial Day at their place on Logan Martin Lake.
Fun day filled with boating, Sea Doo riding, swimming, delicious food and good conversation.

Of course no day in the sun is complete without mass quantities of sun screen.  :-)

I've been shopping for  a Micro Four Thirds System a while now.  I want to try a lighter, less intrusive camera for street photography.  With the release of the Lumix DMC-GF5 cameras, the GF3 dropped dramatically in price.  I was able to pick this up with the kit lens, an extra battery, a 16 GB SD card, and a 20mm F1.7 lens all for less than the original price of the GF3.

Bird Bird Bird

Bird is the word

In April, Christy, Jesse, and I spent the day in the Birmingham Zoo.
I believe this is an Indian Peacock.  He was putting on quite a show.

I don't remember what species this is, but it has a beautiful bill.

I've always found guinea fowl interesting.
These were enjoying a dust bath.
They are a fairly common farm bird here.

I don't know if this is an American Flamingo or a Chilean Flamingo
The zoo has both.  Regardless of which this is, I love the colors.
I need to go back with a longer lens and tripod.

OUCH!

He should not kill a living being, nor cause it to be killed, nor should he incite another to kill.
Do not injure any being, either strong or weak in the world.

Today I went with Christy and Jesse to visit her father.  Jesse was having a great time playing in the driveway muddle puddle.

Yummy Deliciousness on Display

Being a coffer nut, I frequent 318 Coffee and Bands.  In addition to their delicious all organic coffee they serve a variety of homemade pastries.  You really need to try some.  They also serve tasty vegetarian pizzas, sandwiches, burritos, etc.

Obviously my doctor's waiting room doesn't look this dark and weird, but that is how it feels to me.  I don't enjoy going and I don't trust doctors.  They have taught me not to trust them over the years.

This is a more colorful version of the same photo.  This was created using the Glass Sphere app on an iPhone 4.  It is a fun little app to play with and it is free.

Every notice how the pictures we take don't always show what is actually going on?
Here are the toys sitting quietly and almost abandoned looking.  Directly behind me is a toddler yelling and playing in that wild way toddlers do.

Child's Play

It is fun to play with children and watch them play.  The combination of curiosity, imagination, imitation, play, exploration, and learning is inspiring.

I spent a little while relaxing at the lake.  It was a beautiful day, not too hot and not too cold.  Christy fished a little and I took a few pictures and watch Jesse play. It was a nice way to spend part of the afternoon.

I went out partying with Christy and James.
We dropped by the Fort Williams Pub for drinks and food.

After Black Russians, Long Island Iced Teas, Bloody Marys, rum and cokes, and beer fries we went over to 318 Coffee and Bands to watch a local band, Heavy Horses, perform.

Party time

Next time I'm going for a ride in one of the many pedicabs.

Be on the look out for pirates.
"I am a free prince, and I have as much authority to make war on the whole world, as he who has a hundred sail of ships at sea and an army of 100,000 men in the field; and this my conscience tells me; but there is no arguing with such sniveling puppies, who allow superiors to kick them about deck at pleasure; and pin their faith upon a pimp of a parson; a squab, who neither practices nor believes what he puts upon the chuckle-headed fools he preaches to."
~Black" Sam Bellamy

Now and then we had a hope that if we lived and were good,
God would permit us to be pirates.
 – Life on the Mississippi

I'm not sure what was going on here,
but I wasn't the only one who thought it was a good photo op.

Mommy, can I be like her when I grow up?

This was a great couple in love.
They asked if I would take their picture and posed for this photo.

Looking back
this was a fun photowalk.

Bye for now!

Some things are the same no matter where you go.

And some things are different.

A lot different

Shopkeeper looking down the street

After I took this young man's picture, he and his friends came up and wanted to know what I was going to do with the picture.  I told him I was taking pictures for fun.   He said if I made any money with it, he wanted a share.  lol  If I'd had a model release with me I would have gotten him to sign it.  He and his friends would have loved that.  rofl

And it's gone.
