Earth Day April 22, 2010

Earth Day is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in held on April 22, 1970.  Earth Day is celebrated in spring in the Northern Hemisphere and autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. Many communities celebrate Earth Week, an entire week of activities focused on environmental issues. The first Earth Week originated in Philadelphia in 1970 (starting April 16 and culminating on Earth Day, April 22.)  Earth Day Network, a group that wishes to become the coordinator of Earth Day globally, asserts that Earth Day is now observed on April 22 on virtually every country on Earth. ~ Wikipedia

Photos were taken at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens

Noccalula Falls

Here are a few photos from the recent photowalk with the Birmingham Photo Group.
The first two were taken from inside the cave behind the waterfall.

The next two were in front of the waterfall to show its size.
If you look closely, you can see people on the right at the top.

In the next picture there is a girl standing on the sandbar.

I recorded the next video in an attempt to capture the sounds the waterfall was making.

Playing with an iPhone

Here a few of the iPhone photos I took in the past week.  I enjoy playing with the apps.

Never know what you will see on my desk at work.

These azaleas grow in full sun right outside the building where I work.

Looking in the sunroom window early one morning.

I've had this for years and don't remember who gave it to me.
All I remember about it is that is comes from an airport runway.

New cure for baldness?

There have been a lot of new items in my shopping cart for the last couple of weeks.
The checkout clerks are quite curious about the changes in my shopping habits.

Today, I'm going on a photowalk with the Birmingham Photography Group.  We are meeting at Noccalula Falls.   I've been on a photowalk there before and had a wonderful time.

The last few days

Posted on 7:03 AM by jr cline | 1 comments

The last few days have been quite interesting and busy as family dynamics evolve in the new living situation.

Almost as soon as the words, "I've never seen a squirrel in the backyard" were out of my mouth, this little fellow appeared on the back deck to pose.

I usually don't get to take photos in the car since I am driving.
This photo and the next few were taken on the way back from picking up a load of things from Christy and Jeremy's house.
It was a long afternoon and evening of moving, but it was fun to take these 'riding in the car' shots.

Christy's rc car with the body removed.

Here it is with the body.  It sure is fast.

Jeremy blew off the drive so she would have a better place to drive the car.

It was definitely a dusty job.

As with all things in life, an open heart, an open mind, and an open spirit are the tools needed for success.

Hipstamatic Lens/Film experiment

I thought I'd try each of the lenses and films that come with the basic Hipstamatic app on the same scene to see what the differences were.  These are the results of this experiment.

Kaimal Mark II Lens

Blanko Film

Kodot Verichrome Film

Jimmy Lens

 Kodot Verichrome

John S Lens

I personally prefer the John S lens.  I haven't decided which film I like better but I lean towards Kodot Verichrome.
What do you think?

I've been playing with the new Hipstamatic app I downloaded a couple of days ago.
These are the first test shots.

What do 14 year old girls want for their birthday?

Maybe a little cake to go with the presents.

The following two are photos of the porch and yard.

My godson keeps rolling over and then fussing about it.

It is nice to have help decorating.

Trash in the ditch

I was stopped by a train today and had plenty of time to walk around and take photos.  This pile of trash in the ditch disturbed me.  I don't understand people who make the world an ugly place for the rest of us whether it be by dumping trash on the side of the road, a bad attitude, narrow mindedness, or criticizing the hopes and dreams of others.
Each of us can make the world a better place by living mindfully as we travel life's road.
