All you need is love

And to have love it helps to have a working heart.
Each of these hearts represent a donation to the American Heart Association.

I went grocery shopping today.

It was uneventful for the most part.

Up and down and round and round the aisles

So I'm checking out and the mom was in front of me with a buggy and a girl around 10 was behind me with a buggy.  The mom finally got all checked out with her almost $200 worth of stuff and big pile of coupons.   Then she turns and yells at the little girl behind me to get up there with her buggy.  The little girl says she can't that I am next in line.  The mom shoves by my cart and me, grabs things from the child's buggy, shoves her way back to the front, pushes my things back, puts her's down. She makes another trip to get the rest of the stuff, grabs the girl and roughly pulls her to the front.  The mom glares and me (like daring me to say something) and growls an apology in my direction.
By this time I'm grinning from ear to ear and laughing out loud at her antics.  That only infuriates her more.
All in all, it was some of the most fun I've had in that store in a long time.   I did feel sorry for the child though.

Today I took the truck to the shop.
I've been looking forward to getting this work done for several weeks.

They used to open at 7:00, but a while back they changed to 7:30.
I was there around 7:20 since I wanted to get in line first.
At 7:35, there was no activity, so I walked over to the door and read the sign.
hahahaha
They now open at 8:00
I didn't want to wait any longer so off to work I went.
I'll try again next week.

My life seen through a cellular lens

Since my parents died last November, I've spent a lot of time working around their old place.
And of course, as with everything in my life, I record being there with a camera of some sort.

Yesterday, for my picture a day project, I posted a photo of a section of my mom's garden.

Another view of my mom's garden by her deck.
It has really gotten to be quite a mess without the weekly attention a garden requires to look its best.

Through these doors is the sun room my parents built.
It was my favorite room at their place.
Now it serves as a storage room filled with a haphazard pile of my siblings things.
I wish they would move them out so we could get on with selling the house.

My mom had an extensive collection of Department 56 houses, trees, people, fences,
and all types of other things necessary to create miniature villages.
There was an entire case on one wall of the sun room dedicated to these little scenes.

After being over at their old place one afternoon,

I stopped to pick up some liquid refreshment at the convenience store.

This particular chain is celebrating the summer of '69 with an assortment of
tie dyed clothing, peace and love what nots, and flower power frogs.
A fun blast from the past!

Most afternoons when I get home I play with Jesse and Christy.

This day we were hanging out on the back deck letting Jesse
entertain us with his continuing discovery of dogness.

He reminds me of so much I'd forgotten about beginner's mind.

That's all for this weeks edition of Lens life!

Get out there, have as much fun as possible, and keep taking pictures.

For many years before she retired, my mother clipped pictures of garden features she liked and filed them away.   We found those when we were cleaning out her house.
She also collected gardening books filled with photos.

When she retired, she devoted a lot of her attention to creating the garden she had been building in her mind for all those years.
Like all gardens, her's was never completed. Nonetheless,  I hope it was close to her dream when she died last November.

Christy, Jeremy, and I went to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens this morning for a photo shoot.

Since it was Sunday, the restaurant was closed.
Which is just as well, we left well before lunch time.
The heat and humidity is just too much to be out taking photos in the middle of the day.

One of my favorite sections of the gardens is the Japanese garden.

As well, as the Japanese plants, the many large stones are artistically placed.

A fun time was had by all!

I was playing with Jesse in the floor again today.
I wasn't good for much else after 10 am
when I stuck a nail in the bottom of my foot.

I spent most the rest of the day with my foot propped up somewhere.

I was crawling around on the floor today playing with Jesse
and decided to take a few photos from his point of view.

I try not to post too many baby pictures.
Jesse is an every day feature in my world and
sometimes I get a photo of him that I think is good enough to share.

My life seen through a cellular lens

For so many people the world is black and white

or mono-chromatic

Some have added a few more shades to their world view.

But mostly, things are black and white,
easy to categorize and pigeon hole.

Lack of education, fear, and fundamentalism are powerful mind killers.

For those that can see colors

the view is limited to what can be seen through the peep hole
in the side of the box they've built to keep them safe.

I wish they could

and experience a more colorful world.

We grilled out for lunch today: corn on the cob, hobo potatoes, and steak.

Food on the grill.
We cooked two ears of corn just in their husks.
You can see the burned 'hairs' on one in the lower left
and one ear wrapped in foil (husks on)  in the upper middle.
We cooked six ears in all.
The big foil packets are the hobo potatoes.

Someone asked for the recipe for hobo potatoes:
cut potatoes into 1 - 1 1/2" chunks
quarter the onions
put on aluminum foil
spritz with olive oil
throw on some pads of butter
salt and pepper to taste
seal it all up in a foil package (roll the edges)
put another foil package around that one so it will cook more evenly
grill for 40 minutes in a covered grill...flip the packets every 10 minutes

variations: add cloves of garlic
sprinkle with Cajun seasoning
add whole mushrooms
add carrots

It is delicious and easy...not much clean up either

I stopped by the liquor store today and as I was checking out I noticed this on the cash register display.

I thought it was appropriate for a store that sold whiskey, vodka, gin, rum, etc.
But I mostly thought it was funny since it was supposed to say Please Drink Responsibly.
At least that is what the clerk tried to tell me.
hahahahaha

Two heads, make that ten or twelve heads, are better than none.

I enjoy visiting the cosmetology department at work.
They almost always have interesting photographs around.
These manikin heads were all sitting on a couple of tables by the shampoo area.

Lens life

Posted on 5:01 AM by jr cline | 0 comments

My life seen through a cellular lens.

I stopped by the pharmacy to pick up some meds one day.
This row of greeting cards caught my eye, so I snapped a shot using the Sneakypix app.

One morning I stopped by Pat's Place (a local convenience mart) and noticed these two old trucks parked by this red wall.
The light from the morning sun made a world of difference in the color of the wall.
I'm using this picture as the wallpaper on my cell phone.

Like a lot of people, I spend a large portion of my week at work.

In case the block building with the ceramic tile walls catches on fire, we are ready!

300lbs of new cosmetology equipment and supplies.

I spend a lot of time each week teaching in this room.
Although you can't see them, students were taking an exam in there when I took the picture.
That is my grade/roll book in the immediate foreground.

I make several trips to my parent's old house each week.
We are still cleaning things up and getting rid of things so we can sell the house.
These are toxic chemicals we seem to lack the ability to dispose of.

Christy, Jesse, and I went for a ride one day.

We went to visit her dad and take some photos.
Jesse loves his grandfather.

Christy's dad's overalls from when he was a toddler.

An over manipulated glove box picture,
just for the fun of doing it.

Get out there and have some fun today.
