Ellipsis Monday Photo Shoot #118: Going Going Gone

This weeks challenge was to find something that's GOING, GOING, GONE!

There are only two pay phones left around here (that I know about).

Another thing that seems to be disappearing is the mom and pop motel.
Seems all that is left are chains.
Nothing wrong with corporate, nationwide motel chains.
They just seem to lack character.

The waterwheel powered grist mill has all but disappeared from the landscape

along with the covered wooden bridge.

I was really surprised a few years ago when a drive in theater opened.
I thought they were a thing of the past.

If you are interested in trying the challenges, be sure to check out Ellipsis for the next challenge.

I can still find some payphones around here , usually places where the foreign casual workers gathers during the weekend. But around the housing estates, they are playing hide and seek! lol
We used to have one drive in cinema in the year 70s, but somehow not very popular and it closed a few years later.

Hi Jr :)

Oh goodness, some of my very favorite items of Americana! Well, except for the pay phone... I always wondered what kind of germs might be lurking there! LOL! But the Drive-Inns, oh the memories! ;)

There is only 1 in the Bay Area that I am aware of, which makes me sad. Summer nights at the drive-in were a big part of my teen years!

I love the little hotel, but umm, kinda reminds me of the Bates Motel. I don't think I would sleep well there, but the imagination would certainly be flying!

My neck of the woods doesn't have the covered bridges, but I did see some on a vacation back east in 1992. Gorgeous! As is the mill. My family took me to an ice cream factory which used a wheel similar to the one in the photo. :) Brought back some great memories!

Excellent photos m'dear and I loved the sepia tone! WELL DONE!

Beautiful photos. I don't seem to have too much trouble finiding mom n pop motels...only in finding ones I'd be willing to stay at! Love the covered bridges and wish there were more of them.
