50/50 Day 8 and Noticings

Posted on 7:47 PM by jr cline | 1 comments

On the way to a photowalk at Sloss Furnace, I stopped to take this photo under the freeway.

On the same drive, I shot these two photos for the noticings game.

The first sign says 45 and three car lenghts later, going into town, the next one says 50.
Not a big deal in most places, but in Harpersville, Alabama, not understanding the speed limit could be costly.

These have got to be the most noticeable donation collection boxes I've ever seen.

50/50 Day 6 & Catching up

My internet went off the other day and I'm a couple of photos behind so I thought I'd include them in with today's 50/50 shot.

50/50 Day 4

This is an old gas pump I pass going to and from my parent's former home.  Right after the attack on the World Trade Center, this gas station closed and has never reopened.  The rumors say the people who owned it were terrorists and fled.  I don't believe that myself.

50/50 Day 5

This is my wonderful godson, Jesse.  He is four months old.
His mother, Christy, posts her interesting and unique perspective on the world in her photoblog, christygrimes

50/50 Day 6

I stopped by Underground Ink and took a couple of photos of the art on the building.
Here is another shot.

Have a wonderful weekend!

50/50 Day 3

I was clearing out my parent's old place today.
What to my wondering eyes should appear,
this little king busily reigning over my father's library.
I don't know how he got there or where he came from but he was kind enough pose.

50/50 Number 2

I've started a new photo project.  I call it the 50/50 project.
The first photo in this series is contained in The Chili Blog.
This is the second photograph.

The Chili Blog

This is the chili I cooked for Let's all get spicy and talk about it.  See the blog for the recipe.

I set up the camcorder on 3 second intervals to get a jerky overview of the entire process just for the fun.

tripod

I shot the photos with a Sony Alpha 700 using the kit lens.

I used two onions, four cloves of garlic, the whole can of tomato paste, extra cumin and chili powder, 6 squirts of Tabasco, and I substituted shredded 5 cheese blend for the sour cream garnish.

After chopping the onion and garlic, I set all the ingredients out on the counter.

Chili ingredents

turkey on counter

I sauteed the onions and garlic and added the tomato paste, seasonings, and turkey

browning meat

and then browned the turkey, I added the remaining liquid ingredients (I had to finish off the extra beer)

ready to add liquids

and brought it all to a boil.

bringing to a boil

Once things were boiling, I put on the lid, turned the heat down to simmer, and

simmering

made cornbread.

cornbread ingredents

Chili is simmering and the cornbread is in the oven.  It smells great so it is time to get out some dishes.

fixing to serve

Everything is finally done.  The cornbread doesn’t look like it usually does.  It could be the small egg or too much oil.  I’ll just have to wait and see how it tastes.

cornbread

At this point, I think it was the small egg.  I should have used two of those.  It didn't rise right, but it tastes fine.

Now it is time to eat!!!!

ready to eat

Delicious!   If I cook this again, I’ll probably add a diced, deseeded jalapeno pepper, another onion, and more garlic.  I like spicy.

It was fun to play this game.  :-)

I can’t forget the stop action video I did for fun. Talk about fast food!

Photography group meeting and more

Posted on 8:51 AM by jr cline | 0 comments

Saturday was a wonderfully warm and sunny day for my adventure.  I even had the windows out in the front of the jeep most the day.   It has been a long time since I've been able to do that!

At the photography group meeting, we talked about setting up some workshops on specific topics and about locations for future photowalks.  I think workshops are a great idea and we should be able to get that going this year.

I had a outstanding time, met some interesting new people from the APG, and ate twisted chips washed down with Blue Moon

Someone commented on the condition of my arteries when they saw the twisted chips.

Twisted Chips Nutrition Facts:

Fat – 137%
Cholesterol – 28%
Sodium – 89%
…………
Flavor – 200%

rofl
One of the nice things about being alone is I don't have to be concerned about the condition of my arteries.  If I want twisted chips it is no one's business but my own.

After a two hour lunch at O’Charley’s, I headed down/up (whatever) the freeway to Whole Foods.  I picked up some hoppy beer from the brewers at the Yazoo Hop Project.  I have Yazoo Beer Project #25.

I also picked up the Blue Reyes Blue cheese I like ($19.00 lb).   I looked for Sophie Giraffe.   She wasn’t there and the two young women working in the department said the name sounded cool and they would like to see Sophie if I find one. lol  Like that will happen.

I have to toss this photo in for obvious reasons. At least obvious to me.

Cline Tours

I discovered I need to go to the city more.  I’m just not accustomed to the heavy traffic.  Some days I drive all the way to work and all the way home and never see another car on the road.

All in all it was a pleasant Saturday afternoon.   I never did manage to go on a photowalk, maybe today.  No, can’t today.  I’m doing a cooking blog.  That will be plenty to shoot, compose and edit for one day.

I was driving home from work (I left early because I was sick)
and stumbled across this shot for the noticings game.

Much later today, after a long nap, I took this photo.
My dad used to own this red truck.  Then he died and it is in estate limbo.

One last picture, a part of my past.

Have an outstanding day!

Snow Day in Alabama

Snow Day in Alabama from jr cline on Vimeo.

This is yesterday's attempt to record the snow fall using time lapse photography.  I set things up to take a shot every 10 seconds from around 9 am until dark around 5 pm.
I learned a lot and any suggestions or advice will be appreciated.
Have a great weekend!

Today's photo: Bitter Sweet

Camellias have been in my life for as long for as I can remember.
My grandparents had two big red ones by their front porch.
I spend many happy hours talking and playing there.
Out of the all the ones my parents planted at their home, this was one of my mother's favorites.
I'll probably never see this one bloom again.
This house should be sold by next February.

The white square is a computer monitor in a dark classroom.
Everything else, other than the grid in the glass, is a reflection of the things behind me.

The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. ...You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask.

I took this at my friends' house tonight. They invited me over for conversation and dinner (Creole chicken, corn, and tossed salad) .  I also got to see my godson, Jesse.
As an added bonus a small herd of deer was grazing in the yard.
Fun times!  Good food!
